Opportunities and Challenges Faced by Private Higher Education Institution Using the TPACK Model in Malaysia

The use of ICT in teaching and learning becomes important both in private and state educational institution. Though, there are still some unsolved challenges in its implementation in a learning process. This journal examines the opportunities and challenges faced by one of the private higher education institution group in Malaysia that implementing the Technological, Pedagogical, and Content Knowledge (TPACK) model in their teaching and learning processes. This private higher education institution was chosen because it has supported their academic staff with hardware, software and as well as the online teaching and learning or pedagogical skills training program.
This journal answered two research questions as follow; 
(1) Is there any significant difference between the technology and non-technology faculty academic staff applying ICT in their educational system? 
(2) What are the opportunities and challenges faced by ICT based educational system in private higher education institution?
The writer proposed TPACK framework theory by Mishra and Koehler. Also, he explained some previous research related to challenges and opportunities in ICT Education. He used questionnaire instrument to gather the data. The questionnaire survey designs based on the TPACK model specifications used to identify the aspects of technology knowledge, pedagogical knowledge and the content knowledge of the respondents of the research. There are 39 respondents have been participated in the final questionnaire questions set. In analyzing the data, the writer used normality test and T-test.

The result of the research stated that there was no significant difference between the technology and non-technology faculty academic staff groups in applying ICT in their learning processes. Besides, the respondents stated that they were faced two major challenges in using ICT in teaching and learning process. The two major problems were the instructional design problem and interruption problem. In addition, there are three main advantages of using the ICT in teaching and learning; increase engagement rate, encourage teamwork and convenient time in teaching and learning.
